"Tie-dyed" easter eggs

It has been a while since we have dyed easter eggs. It has fallen into the category of things that I used to do and am sick of; like carving pumpkins and decorating gingerbread houses. It is messy, it never turns out like I expected and it is a waste of good eggs (or pumpkin, or candy as the case may be.)

This year I saw a great idea for silk dyed eggs and I thought, here is a foolproof, non-messy project. This was not entirely the case. It actually took me some time to cut out the neckties and tie them around the eggs. Then I had to tie a piece of plain fabric over that.

The results were impressive, but I think don't think the fabric was tight enough around the eggs because it left some blank spots. Rubber bands would have worked out better.

The ones we died in solid dye turned out almost as good.

I think the girls were less than impressed with the project because there was very little for them to do.
But they did think they were cute.

Note to self: Next year how about decorating eggs out of construction paper.
Now I just need to get my kids to eat egg salad.
