Sunriver, Part I

I am overwhelmed thinking about how to document our vacation last week. I have a headache from sorting through over 500 pictures from 3 cameras. How we took that many I have no idea. We certainly kept ourselves busy and had a great time though.

I think our activities can be categorized into three parts hiking, biking, and swimming. And so, I have decided to blog about them in three parts.

Part I - Hiking

We started our adventures hiking at Paulina Falls and Paulina Peak. We took a short trail down to these beautiful waterfalls.
The boys had fun hiking up to the falls.

Here is Luke behind the waterfall.

The girls were a little put out that they had to wait at the bottom.

We also drove up to Paulina Peak where there is a great view of the lakes and the obsidian flow.

We hiked the trail out to the overlook.

A beautiful view.

Another day we went up to Mt. Bachelor. We have been up before in the summertime. It is fun to ride up the ski lift and hike around up top.

There was still quite a few snow banks up there. The kids had fun climbing around on them. The sun sure does reflect off of that snow. It was almost blinding.

It is a beautiful view from up there on a clear day.

One thing I have always wanted to do is drive down to Crater Lake. It is one of those things that you just have to see, even though there is not much else to do there. It is a lot closer to drive there from Sunriver than from our house, so we decided to make the trip down there. I did not realize how cold it would be. And foggy. As we were driving up to the rim, the fog was so thick we could not see 2 feet in front of us. I began to think it was a wasted trip.

This is what it looked like. 44 degrees and foggy. That is supposed to be the lake behind me.
It did clear up though the further we went and we actually were able to see the lake, which I was begining to doubt.

We got out and hiked down this winding trail to the shore. It was a long way down, but there were some really pretty view points along the way.

Particularly here at this switchback.

To be continued...
